Indigenous Leadership Group
Centre High Indigenous Student Leadership program began in the 2011-12 school year with five members and continues to grow yearly. Our leadership group is open for all students (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) and is facilitated in a manner which honours traditional Indigenous: First Nations, Metis and Inuit, ways of knowing and experiences.
As a part of the leadership program, students act as ambassadors for the school volunteering inside the school and community, role models, develop leadership skills through experience and mentoring, plan events, listen to guest speakers, discuss contemporary Indigenous issues, and learn about cultural practices and teachings.
The goal of our leadership group is to provide students with the skills necessary in successfully transitioning from high school onto the next step of their lives. Through the experiences provided, students will work towards short and long term goals, how to participate as team players, importance of time management and decision making and steps and strategies towards creating a bright and positive future.
